Day 10: Li Po

Hey, I’m gonna keep it real.  I used to get mistaken for being Chinese.  One of my first best friends growing up was Chinese.  Most of my teenage life was spent in the Richmond District.  I went to George Washington.  I was raised on "Jun May" on Balboa. (Chinese food to go) I’ve never hung out in Chinatown because I thought it was pretty much in my backyard.  If you grew up in the Aves you know it’s true.  I’m not trying to be funny, just keeping it real. Now that I’m an adult, I guess it's time to check it out.  Isn’t that the REAL reason why we started this whole 30 Days thing?  Explore all neighborhoods in this beautiful city of ours? 

Here we are.  In the middle of what seems to be the pulse of Chinatown, a little hidden gem called Li-Po.  Ever see that movie Big Trouble in Little China.  Just the front of this place looks like it was from a Hollywood set.  (Add pic here)  I felt like the Filipino Jack Burton walking in the bar and ordering a shot to Jamison and a beer looking for that girl with the green eyes? (Later that night one of our friends came in and I think she had green eyes… funny observation) And where’s David Lo Pan?    Daniel, the big brother behind the bar was quiet in the beginning.  But by the end of the night, we were doing shots like we knew each other. He was also playing 90 r&b but he was just a tad bit older than me.  He must have known I was coming.  “Doh-Jay” Li-Po’s famous drink was their Chinese Mai-Tai.  Chinese Liquor and 151 rum?  I think Catharine had one or two and she said she was buzzing.  Nice.  Rumor has it that this place was an opium den back in the day.  Li-Po was established in 1936, so I can believe that.  So, if you are in Chinatown, grab some dim-sum, the head over to Li-Po and get a Mai Tai.  Tell them 30 Days sent ya!

Day 8: The RipTide

Crashing in at bar number 8 of 30 is the Riptide located at 3639 Taravel. The Riptide has been an outer sunset dive for as long as I can remember. Surfers young and old call the Riptide home, and rightly so! Stepping through the front door was like stepping through a time machine. Their are old neighborhood pictures, old posters and promotional items, surf boards, and a huge deer head lining the walls. The bar itself is huge and offers plenty of seating for it's patrons. Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 7pm daily, and there are even tasty munchies provided.
The Tide has a great selection of local beers on tap, a fantastic assortment of bottled beers, and just about any alcohol you can imagine, Tuesday night surf movies, nachos, and a great local vibe and crowd! Adeline and Eddie were our mixologists for the night. They kept our pitchers full and our livers pickled. The Riptide is easy to get to from anywhere in the city. So, if you are in need of a cold beer, great view, great bartenders, and local people... ride the L Taravel down to the Riptide and indulge yourself. Thank you to all the folks that came out to support!

Day 6: SpitFire Rose

Spit Fire Rose is a nice out of the way; off the beaten path, quite type of spot, especially for a Monday. You can go in there and hide out and gather your thoughts or bring a friend. Its definitely a saloon were you can hold a conversation without shouting or screaming. You can enjoy the game, and definitely some libations. Francisco, the bar tender, provided generously pored stiff drinks. I particularly enjoyed the Haywire beer that was on on tap. They had working mans prices, a pool table and jukebox. Check out Spit Fire Rose when you get the chance.  UPDATE-  Fun Fact: Before SpitFire Rose, this place was called Fabs.  Previously owned by the Sullivan Familly!  Small world.

2010 30DOD A/D: The Refill: 30 Day of Debauchery Reunification party

You are cordially invited to join ACP for "The Refill"-the recap & reunification of the "30 Days of Debauchery" participants."The Refill" will be held at the Dragon Lounge, located at 1355 Taraval St. (between 23rd & 24th Ave) San Francisco, CA 94116, in the Sunset. 2010: Day 21: The AVE

If you think because it was a Monday, the All City Project was going to relent just a bit, think again! Yall trippin,' there is no stopping! Last night ACP, doing the damn thang at the AVE. For yall that don't know, ya'll gonna find out!

Located at 1607 Ocean Ave, in the the Lakeview district, the Avenue Crew (ACP) ironically happen to be taking the debauchery to the AVE for day twenty-one. The AVE is far from your ordinary neighborhood bar. In a place that coins their jukebox "Home of the Freshest Jukebox in Frisco," there is no going wrong. The place is as vibrant and lively as the characters that you'll find frequenting the spot.

The AVE, offers a cozy and relaxing atmosphere to unwind after a long day on the clock. With two flat-screens and a projector, the place prides itself on many of the sporting events that are going on. Drinks specials are offered during The World Cup with $2 Trumer and $2 Tecate. For your MLB games they offer $3 draft beers long as there is a baseball game going on in addition, to the daily Happy Hour from 3-7pm, with $1 off well drinks and a menu list of special shots for $3. Oh, and they also offer wine tasting events 4-7pm for the wine drinkers (inquire within). Can you say drink specials galore?

Our mixologist for the night was John, you rock (shots out to Evansville)! He was very friendly and definitely has passion for his mixing abilities and knowledge of liquors. Along with the jukebox, cozy feel and a cool bartender the night was a perfect beginning to yet another week of debauchery.

The uniqueness of the AVE is built-up from the locals and their regulars. That's why its not your typical bar plus, how many places do you

know that you can pick up a game of bones (dominoes) or a game of spades with folks you've just met? If you're looking for great drink specials, a chill spot and a crackin' jukebox with everything from RBL Posse to Orange Juice Jone and a whole lot in between go visit the AVE. 2010: Day 20: Hockey Haven **Father's Day**

John (owner): Whada have? (In an Irish Accent)


Ryan : I’ll have Guinness and a shot of Jamison

John: I noticed you have been coming in a lot in the past two weeks. What’s you name lad?

Ryan : Names Ryan sir.

John: Ryan huh. Can I ask you a question?

Rally: Sure

John: You drink Guinness… You drink Jamison… (John scratches his head) How the hell did you get such a fine Irish name?

Ryan : I’m your cousin! (No. I'm not Irish)

John starts to laugh and gives me a drink marker, on the house.

I love that story. That was sometime in 1997.

This isn’t a new bar for me. I grew up around the corner and when I turned 21, I knew this was going to be one of the bars that would become my drinking hole. Every time I walk in the Hockey, I feel very much at home with all the neighborhood locals. I am very proud to say that I am a Richmond District Avenue Local. There’s no place like home! So if you come in here, order a beer and a shot. Keep it simple for the behind the bar.
